My LbNA region is northern NY and I have seen it grow by 4 times over
the past 3 years. I have noticed a little more new local traffic in my
more popular boxes. I have also noticed that there is a large number of
boxers from NE, particularly Ct.
Why is that? Is letterboxing more organized in there area?
Are their more gatherings or events that help build interest and help
people develop their carving skills?
Are there clubs or other organizations that people actually meet face
to face?
I am interested in your thoughts on this.
Thank you,
Baker

I can't speak for other northern states, but I am from the northern
NY area and I don't think that there is nearly as much Lb activity in
this region as in the NE area. Maybe it is the pop density, but I am
wondering if there is a more orgaized presance in NE.
Have you gone to gatherings or met people for a Lb function?

Probably one big reason is that letterboxing started in earnest in CT...

Re: [LbNA] Why is the letterboxing hobby more active in New England??

Earnest, CT is located at Eastern Mountain Sports at the Crystal Mall
in Waterford, CT. It is my understanding they started a clue
exchange service for their customers before the web sites were
created. The Drew family is also located in the southeast area of
CT, and they were early boxers and promoters of the hobby. So the
hobby got going earlier than the rest of the country was introduced
to it.
But we must not forget the early activity in the Pacific Northwest,
where other early promoters are located.
